Re-enactors are a funny group of people. They are so flippin’ smart, and they tend to be smart about one thing or another. like there was a guy that knew anything that there was to know about horses during the gold rush. And his day job is a dentist! And film people and re-enactors don’t get along very well. Take the horse guy for instance, they were filming a shoot with horses, and the horse dude didn’t have anything to do with the shot, we (all the re-enactors) were sitting acrost the creek and the horse guy was just complaining about how they were riding horses wrong and the saddles were all wrong. Not really complain out loud but every once and a while he would make the same comment.
And film people! They are really wierd. They weed eated a bunch of flowers that were where we were filming cause they didn’t want any in the shot. and they pulled all the algae in the water out. (side story: during the later part of the day, we were all just finshed and were sitting some tents near the creek and one of the film students, around my age, was told that she was to clean out the algae because she hadn’t did it yet. We told her about the leeches that were in the water. There really were, but i couldn’t get one to stick to me. And she almost fell, then Ed yelled to her, ‘oh, you almost lost it there. don’t worry if you fall in, my good friend Andrew will check every inch of you for leeches.’ I said in a normal voice so she couldn’t really hear me, ‘huh? me or him’ pointing at the other andrew, my boss. He said me. It was just one of those weird things that has never happened to me before. End side story) Because they didn’t have little yellow flowers or algae back in the 1850’s. The re-enactors live on authenticity, and film people just want what looks good.

in your side story you didn’t mention whether you had to check every inch of the film student for leaches……..
